Working @ Beverly Hills Thompson

Posted by Paula | Posted on 05-11-2009

The view from ABH at Beverly Hills Thompson rooftop is one of the best in Beverly Hills. You can see all the hills and by looking in the other direction, all of Santa Monica and Downtown LA.

So I had lots of work to do as usual, and I was trying to make the last few warm days of Cali summer weather worth while for my daughter. So I had the most brilliant idea!!  I need to sharpen up my color, while working on some business.  And Aires and her BFF, Sanaa, can have a party in the pool….and it will all be gravy baby!!!

First things first, ordered their famous Strawberry Rhubarb infused Iced tea with fresh Mint! We will be parched from playing in the Sun.

The Lobster Tacos are Aires’ favorite….

My favorite is the Ahi Pizza with Truffle Oil drizzled on top of spicy radish sprouts. OMG!!! Heaven.

Well now that everyone got fed, time for Mommy to get to work!

Magazines for “research”, MAC, CrackBerry, notepad for notes, notepad for sketching…

My view while I was working…I LOVE to see my baby smile!

I have to admit it was a brilliant idea. The girls had a ball. I got some work done, and solidified my bronzeness for the fall/winter. Everyone had a great day.

Ism…Be creative when it comes to spending time with the kids and getting work done.  It isn’t easy to do, but it IS possible to do both.  You just have to think outside of the box! Multi tasking is what EVERY MOM has to do now-a-days.  I make sure I keep my eyes on what’s most important, my Aires Amor, whenever I have to do *D. all of the above.

Homeopathic Solutions for teething

Posted by Paula | Posted on 28-07-2009

Camilia worked for me and is Mommy approved!

Homeopathy is a safe and more natural approach to healing. It is medicine that has therapeutically active microdoses of mineral, botanical, and biological substances. It has been used for more than 200 years worldwide by millions of patients.  The thing about homeopathy is that it is approved by the FDA, but is a successful alternative to western medicine. If you are looking for safe alternatives to liquid Tylenol for your teething baby who still won’t stop screaming and drooling with proven results for temporary relief and is safe, Camilia is a fantastic option.

I have learned that what works for one child, may not have the same effect on another child.  So I have gotten into the habit to research more than one product at a time.  I carried two different types in the diaper bag to see which teething solution would agree with my baby girl’s system better.  I loved how Camilia was a liquid form and I could see my angel felt better right away.  Sometimes I would switch it up and use Hyland’s Teething Tablets.

This homeopathic remedy for teething pains worked just as well!

My sister swore by this product for her teething woes with my niece. I have to admit sometimes if I couldn’t find Camilia, I would use Hyland’s.  This product is everywhere! The tablets are just as easy to use, but they have some form of lactose in the ingredients, for all you vegan mommies out there. Other than that little tid bit, the teething tablets work like a charm to calm the inflamed gums and soothe the pain.

Ism…Every problem has a solution.  As a mom, I have been confronted by more than my share of challenges.  Because of all the choices we are given, when it comes to health care, it can get pretty overwhelming.  I have done alot of research to find what natural remedies I can use on my daughter to help her get through the sometimes uncomfortable stages of growing.  My “Mommy Opinion” is that both of these products are fabulous alternative remedies to the teething issue.  I have the peace of mind I need as a mom, to give my child medicine that I know will be healthier for her body, and still work to help dissolve the pain as well.

Read Across America

I was so surprised to get this from the head of LAUSD.

I was first approached by the chair of Read Across America three years ago. I was working on several different projects and was surprised to get the opportunity. I feel there are certain causes that have always equivalated a stature of achievement in the entertainment industry. Growing up in LA, I remember Read Across America. I was always mesmerized by the celebrity volunteers that supported the organization. I used to dream of one day having the opportunity to contribute to such causes that I might be able to give of my time in the same way. I am so thankful to have the numerous opportunities to commit myself to such noble and quite frankly, necessary organizations and causes today.

This 1st grade class celebrated their favorite author, Dr. Seuss….so of course I read one of my daughter’s favorites, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

One of my favorite days in school was Pajama Day!….these Kinder’s had their PJ style on lock!

Gary, who coordinates the big event every year, is one of the most dedicated men I have come across.

I choked on my water when, James Avery, a.k.a. Philip Banks, a.k.a. Uncle Phil…..stepped into the room where we were signing autographs for the kids and faculty. I suddenly felt as though I was not worthy. I mean come on?! I grew up watching Fresh Prince……not to mention all of the theatrical work this thespian has done.

Ism…It is a great gift to be able to teach a child how to read.  One of the most emotional times for me in raising my daughter was when I taught her how to read.  I was overwhelmed to think of how valuable the gift of literacy really is.  My heart goes out to all children that do not know the privilege, as shocking as it might be this day and age.  Read Across America and other organizations like it bring emphasis to show the  impact literacy can bring by teaching knowledge, building self esteem,  and adding a greater sense of self and enrichment to a child.  In our current times it is even more crucial to give support to these causes.  Wouldn’t you say our children are worth it?

A family that sculpts together…

I made this platter!!…my instructor couldn’t believe how beautiful it came out.

My daughter has always loved creating things with her hands. I realized she had a gift and enrolled her in a clay sculpting/pottery camp for kids about 4 years ago. Since then she has brought home many beautiful pieces. She has always wanted me to join her in the class and when we got notice of the parent/child class starting up we had to indulge! 2 hours per week for 4 weeks and this is what we created.  Ellen, owner of Clayworks, is a very talented teacher, sculptor, and artist.

Aires Amor used the pottery wheel to make this pitcher.

Aires Amor made this frame for a Mother’s Day gift!

I made this for my man and he loved it!

I had a ball learning from my daughter and I learned that making pottery teaches acceptance, patience, and is very therapeutic! I was delightfully surprised to like getting my hands dirty and more so what I can create when I take a leap of faith. We now go monthly to share each other’s company and let our inner Michael Angelo shine! Thanks Ellen and Aires Amor for teaching me a new craft!

Ism…There are many talents you have.  Try new things and take a leap of faith.  Children teach us everyday different lessons about life that as adults we seem to need to learn. I think it is extremely important as adults to give children an opportunity to teach us when they learn skills we are not familiar with. It is a huge confidence builder for children and is a fun way to learn more about their personalities and character. Not to mention, you might discover  a new activity that you can share together!

Battle the Germs!

Posted by Paula | Posted on 03-05-2009

Found this at Naimie’s in Valley Village, CA.

This lil gem fits in the palm of your hand…perfect for those times of emergency when there is no more soap in the public restrooms! Or from the looks of the soap, you would’nt dare touch it.

I tested the “thin as paper” sheets out myself and they do work! The only thing is ya gotta wash your hands in warmer water to make sure the soap sheet dissolve properly. The concept is similar to the mint sheets that dissolve on your tongue. The real stamp of approval came when my daughter and her friends used them at a restaurant one night. They came back smiling and sniffing their hands saying, “We like this soap!! It smells good too!”

Ism…I am a firm believer in always being prepared.  There are many times in our lives that we will get caught not being as prepared as we would have liked. With recent virus’ spreading it is that much more important to take time to use good hygiene, to better protect yourself.  As a Mom, I am certain I speak for the masses when I say, the rewards of being prepared by having wipes, or a blanket, or an extra snack in our bags are irreplaceable and keep our children thinking we are THE BEST!!  This soap is a genius idea and is something everyone should carry.  It is better to be over-prepared than to be caught unprepared!!

Opening Ceremony is kid approved!

Posted by Paula | Posted on 30-03-2009

I love to spend time with my daughter whenever and wherever, but she begs to differ. She loves it when I don’t have to play Supermama. That’s when I have to go to an  audition, do returns from a shoot that I styled and/or personal shop for one of my clients, do research for a story I am writing, go grocery shopping, the list goes on…..Today was different for her, one because she had her homie with her, two because I had to pull her out of the store when usually it is the opposite.

They hold the key to a shopaholic mom’s dream!….It is a Hello Kitty life-size house!

After I handled my business, I went looking for the girls and they were no where to be found. Until I saw that there was a house in the middle of the store! I peaked in and guess who I saw….

Hello Ladies…..whatcha doing?

Needless to say they were quite content in their play land so I just took a lil looksy to see what they had for me….just looking of course.

Well, who could resist Vivienne’s newest shoe colab?! And they smell like strawberries!!!!!! I swear!!

At last I was able to talk the girls out, after bribing them with some fun new HK eraser’s, and all of us were biding a found farewell to Opening Ceremony. Now my daughter is more than happy to come with me wherever…Funny, I wonder why?

kidISM…kids have just as much fun as their trend-setting parents who shop at Opening Ceremony!

Sympathy Pain…

I remember my first experience at the dentist, do you?  I remember how excited I was.  All I wanted was the new toothbrush and toy at the end of my visit, as a reward for the confident smile establishing phrase “No Cavities”.  Well, as a mother I could care less about the toy or toothbrush, but still want to her that beautiful phrase that  confirms my I am instilling good hygiene habits for my daughter.

We have hit some bumps in the road.  I have discovered in the “Land of Mamahood” that just because my teeth were resilient to cavities, does not mean that my child will have the same experience.  Recently we had an appointment with our family dentist, Dr. Jamie Sands.  Aires had a cavity and it had to go!  It just so happened that I was watching our niece, Chloe, the same day.  Any other toddler would probably have zero interest in the dentist….not Chloe.  She wanted to watch the whole process.  Aires was a trooper and super brave. So was Chloe.  A little too brave,  she wanted to be next after Aires was finished!  Chloe wanted to feel part of the experience so we let her in on the t.l.c. that followed the extraction.

Chloe even put on the same “pobrecita me” face as her big cousin, Aires Amor.

Days later coincidentally Chloe had her first visit to the dentist and got her first toy and toothbrush. Woohoo!

Chloe makes it look easy…

TOOTHism?…healthy teeth and gums come first cuz ya always want the toothbrush and toy.
